TODAY IN THIS MANGO GROVE A NEW NATION IS BORN. For many years in the past the people of Bangladesh strove to forge ahead with their own tradition and culture and under their own leaders. But the Pakistani vested interest would never allow that. The Pakistanis have launched an aggression against us. We tried to proceed in a constitutional way which they did not permit. They led a savage attack against us. Therefore we are forced to plunge into the war today. In this war our victory is inevitable. We must throw out the Pakistani occupation forces. If not today, then tomorrow, or the day after.
We are for peaceful co-existence with all the states of the world. We want to live like brothers. We want the triumph of humanity, democracy and freedom.
You are aware that Bangabandhu for the last 23 years has been carrying on this movement and has sacrificed his everything for the sake of it. He wanted to see our political, economic and cultural rights established. I can say with emphasis that he is very much in our midst. In all national crises we were guided by him.
Therefore, I can affirm that the new state that has won its place today in the map of the world, shall live on forever. No power on earth shall be able to obliterate it. You are aware that for the last 23 years the Pakistani vested interests, with their industrial and military cohorts, have dealt a blow to our movement at every step. We tried to realize our rights in a peaceful way. It is sad and disgraceful that those west wingers labeled the Sher-e- Bangla as traitor. They put Hossein Shaheed Suhrawardy in jail So there can be no compromise with them, nor clemency for them.
Our President, the beloved leader of the subjugated and persecuted masses, Sheikh Mujib, who had led the movement for political, economic and cultural rights of the people of Bengal, is today imprisoned. With him as our helmsman we can be sanguine of victory."
