It's possible that Elden Ring players will need to alter their typical play style in order to defeat Blaidd once he starts acting hostile outside of Ranni's Rise.
Even in Elden Ring, fan-favorite non-playable characters (NPCs) are inevitably going to perish at the conclusion of their respective questlines, as is the case in the vast majority of the games that FromSoftware has developed. Blaidd is widely regarded as one of the most lovable figures in the community; however, in order to move on with Ranni's storyline, players are required to give up control of Blaidd. The battle itself is peculiar, but the hints that were dropped along the way during Ranni's questline in Elden Ring help to explain what happened after that. Even though he doesn't fight like a typical boss, it can be difficult to respond appropriately to his quick movements and powerful attacks because he isn't a boss in the traditional sense. It is in your best interest to defeat him in order to claim his armor and Greatsword, but if you so choose, he can be left alone and still count toward your character's canonical survival.
The Reasons Behind The Tarnished's Battle Against Blaidd At Ranni's Rise
It's possible that players who returned to Ranni's Rise after finishing the Lunar Princess questline were taken aback by the sudden appearance of Blaidd right outside. When the player gets too close, he murmurs something about how he could never turn his back on her, Ranni, and immediately attacks them. It may appear that Blaidd loses his mind for no apparent reason, but the true motivation is gradually revealed as the quest progresses.
Blaidd is a shadow bound beast that was created by the Two Fingers and the Greater Will to serve as a trustworthy companion to an Empyrean, which is a candidate that is selected to succeed Marika. Just like how Maliketh is tied to Marika, Blaidd serves Ranni. These beasts are completely obedient to their Empyrean, but at the same time, they have an innate loyalty to the Greater Will, which is their creator.
Because of this, when Ranni finally kills her Two Fingers and completely severes herself from the Greater Will, Blaidd completely loses it. This is because they are essentially commanded by two masters. After what has just transpired, it is impossible for him to both guard Ranni and obey the Greater Will, as the two objectives are diametrically opposed to one another. The Greater Will insists that Blaidd betray Ranni, but in a valiant act of disobedience, Blaidd stubbornly refuses to do so.
Methods for Succeeding Against Blaidd, the Half-Wolf
Even though Blaidd only engages in combat at close range, his fast abilities allow him to close the gap between himself and ranged and casting classes extraordinarily quickly. His attacks deal significant physical and magical damage, but more importantly, his Weapon Skill and the rest of his abilities all cause the player to build up a Frostbite condition. Put on armor that increases your Robustness stat in order to slow down the rate at which these attacks add Frostbite to your character.
Because Blaidd moves quickly, you should be ready to continuously move and dodge regardless of the strategy you choose to employ. On the other hand, the battle does not begin until either Blaidd notices the player or the player attacks him. You can start the fight with a Charged Attack if you sneak up behind him from the Site of Grace in Ranni's Rise in Ranni's Rise, or you can prepare a high-level spell with a slow casting time that you can use to start the fight with.
Melee Strategies
It is recommended that you acquire the Ash of War Barricade Shield so that you can avoid taking too much damage to your Stamina while blocking the majority of his melee attacks. Because many of his abilities leave him vulnerable for a considerable amount of time, conserving some Stamina so that you can respond to an opponent's attack is essential. In the battle against Blaidd, it is best to combine this Ash of War with shields that have a high Magic Damage defense and block 100% of the physical damage that is dealt to them.
It is possible to throw Blaidd off balance, but it will take a sustained onslaught of forceful attacks. For optimal results, either Powerstancing two heavy Armaments or using a Colossal weapon with two hands is recommended. It is possible to leave yourself vulnerable to Guard Counters if you use a heavy Armament in your main hand while also holding a Shield in your other hand. Guard Counters are very useful when dealing with Blaidd. If you choose Elden Ring Weapons that swings too slowly in this fight, you run the risk of getting hit in the middle of an extended attack animation, so exercise extreme caution when making your selection.
Strategies Utilizing Rifles and Casters
Players who rely on their ranged or spellcasting abilities may find the fight against Blaidd to be less challenging than other boss fights, despite the fact that Blaidd's rapid movement across the battlefield can make casting spells more difficult. Casters should begin the battle by casting the most potent charged spell they have access to, then gradually back away from Blaidd while continuing to cast honing spells such as Rock Sling, which Blaidd will find difficult to avoid. Raise your Dexterity to a higher level or equip the Radagon Icon to reduce the amount of time it takes for your spells to cast. This will help you avoid having your animations interrupted while you are casting spells.
Cheesing Strategies
The Poison Mist Incantation and eliminating Blaidd with long-range Spells are the two primary tactics that are utilized in the process of cheating Blaidd. It is possible for players to attack Blaidd from a ledge just above Ranni's Rise using the spell Giantsflame Take Thee and cost Elden Ring runes, which has a very long range and can travel very far. Blaidd has no way to defend himself.
On the other hand, in order for players to use the Incantation of Poison Mist, they have to get quite close to Blaidd. Once you have reached the bottom of Ranni's Rise, the Site of Grace, you will find Blaidd sitting outside and having a conversation with himself. You can poison him without drawing aggro if you sneak up behind him and cast Poison Mist, but he will still be poisoned. If you keep casting this as the duration of its effect decreases, Blaidd will eventually give up the fight. As a Faith user, you can make sneaking significantly more effective by casting the incantation known as Assassin's Approach or Assassin's Gambit.
What Comes Next Following the Defeat of Blaidd the Half-Wolf?
Once Blaidd has been vanquished outside of Ranni's Rise, the associated questline will conclude. Killing him during this final event is the only way for players to obtain his gear, although it is possible for them to choose to keep him alive so that he does not perish in their version of the world.
Players who are successful in defeating Blaidd receive almost all of the components that make up his armor set; the only component that is missing is Blaidd's headpiece. Because Blaidd is a werewolf in some capacity, his head does not take the form of a helmet and therefore cannot be taken from his body. On the other hand, within Seluvis' Rise lies a headpiece known as the Black Wolf Mask. This piece of headgear was most likely salvaged from a puppet representation of the half-wolf.
The Royal Greatsword is one of the rewards for defeating Blaidd. This weapon scales with both Strength and Intelligence, and it comes with a potent Ash of War that increases the chance of Frostbite. The Wolf's Assault Ash of War grants players the ability to launch forward, slam the Greatsword into the ground, and let loose a massive blast of Frost in the immediate area. This is the same signature move that Blaidd uses in his final (and only) battle against the Tarnished.
